Why Ollie's Hall matters
The Need
1st Aston Clinton Scouts has never had a permanent home. We hire spaces across the village, store equipment in containers and lofts, and are oversubscribed — unable to take all the children who want to join.
The Opportunity
In 2018 we secured a site adjacent to the village park — central enough for members to walk or cycle. Planning consent was granted. The hall would be called Ollie's Hall, a lasting legacy in memory of Ollie Gardiner.
The Hurdle
Despite planning consent and broad local support, Buckinghamshire Council has so far refused to release access rights to the site. An offer of £250,000 was made for the access. The project is paused while this remains unresolved.
In Memory
Ollie Gardiner
2004 – 2017
Ollie was a keen Beaver, Cub and Scout who sadly died of a brain tumour aged just 13. Ollie's Fund, set up in his memory, generously donated £20,000 to the project. Along with contributions from the Scout group and pledges from supporters, around £165,000 has been secured towards construction — ready when the project can move forward.
